Carlos.
Carlos Elias, founder of hèlmut, has been cutting and styling hair since he was just 13 years old. Style is what interested him at such a young age. Moving to New Zealand when he was a teen, he found himself in an age of punk and new wave bands coming from the UK, France, and New York growing up, inspired by their loud hairstyles and individuality.
“I am very grateful to have grown up around the time as it was very creative in every area from fashion to architecture, photography to furniture, you name it. People lived slower then, they had time to appreciate the details. So, when I created hèlmut, I wanted to capture that and create a lifestyle, providing for each client to enjoy and have fun with their style. My vision was to provide for people, something they can take with them, style is for playing.”

I get my inspiration through life experiences, art and film, to curate an aesthetic which is modern, romantic and alternative.

Growing up in Tokyo, surrounded by all sorts of fashion, music, art and style, made me understand different styles. I was into street skate culture in the 90s/00s and its still in for me. For hair, my curly/wavy hair obsession is real! Got curly hair and want a style change? I’m the one here for that. Not lots of people know but I do love short cuts too!
